Granada vs Real Betis Preview

There’s an Andalusian derby to round off matchday 4 in LaLiga 2021/22 as Granada entertain Real Betis. This feels like a really significant game for the home team and the reaction will be interesting to see after they slumped to a heavy loss last time out.
They’ve had over a fortnight to stew over that 4-0 defeat against a Rayo Vallecano side that is certainly not expected to pull up any trees this season. It was a worrying sign for this new Granada under Robert Moreno and while their opening two games did end in respectable draws, there hasn’t really been any sort of honeymoon period for the former Spain boss.
Granada’s XI here will make interesting reading and Moreno may be tempted to ring the changes across the pitch. That could even potentially include in goal where Luis Maximiano, their only summer signing which involved a transfer fee, is hoping for a start. Sergio Escudero and Santiago Arias are other new arrivals who could feature and both would add experience and a degree of extra quality to this side.
As for Real Betis, they won’t feel the need to do anything too radical but coach Manuel Pellegrini will have one eye on Thursday’s Europa League opener against Celtic. He most likely won’t be too thrilled at having to play this one on Monday night but at least it’s not a particularly long trip for a Betis side that has also recorded two points from their opening three games.
Like Granada, it was last time out where Betis suffered their solitary defeat although in rather less humiliating circumstances. Betis were defeated 1-0 at home by Real Madrid with Dani Carvajal scoring the only goal for the away team. They’ve added a bit more quality to their squad since then with Willian Jose joining on loan to compete with Borja Iglesias for a starting role up front while Hector Bellerin’s move from Arsenal was completed and he should be the first choice right-back.

Team News
Granada may make changes with new signings such as Santiago Arias potentially starting. Neyder Lozano is the only injury absentee.
Summer signings Youssouf Sabaly and Willian Jose are both doubts for Betis but Hector Bellerin should make his debut.
Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:

Granada vs Real Betis Predictions
Score Prediction: Granada 1-1 Real Betis
This should be a competitive derby game as both sides go gunning for that elusive first victory. You’d expect some sort of reaction from Granada after what happened in Vallecas but there are a few too many doubts surrounding them to back them to get the win against a Betis side that may have at least half an eye on their return to European football this coming Thursday.
