The South Madrid derby may not be Spain’s biggest local rivalry but there is not much love lost between these two clubs. This will only be the fifth time the game has been played in the top flight and Leganes are so far unbeaten on their two visits to this ground in the Primera, claiming a famous victory in the South Madrid derby here last season.

As was the case then, Getafe head into the game as the clear favourites. They’ve had a bit of a mixed start to the campaign following on from last year’s excellent 5th place finish though. They sit down in 12th place currently and the reasons for that seem largely to relate to their inability to be as solid at the back this term. They are averaging 1.5 goals per game conceded compared to less than one per game last season with centre-backs Djene and Leandro Cabrera not quite hitting the same heights so far.

Leganes are a similar kind of team in terms of style with perhaps a little less quality in the final third of the pitch. They’ve not been as bad as the league table currently suggests but these are worrying times for Mauricio Pellegrino whose side is currently propping up the division with just 2 points and only 4 goals scored. When you consider that only three sides have had more shots than Lega in La Liga this term, it’s clear that poor finishing has cost them badly.

Geta still have a few injury absentees with Mathias Olivera and Vitorino Antunes struggling for fitness so Allan Nyom should face his former club here having played for Leganes in the South Madrid derby last term. Leganes are at least boosted by the return to fitness of first choice goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar which should help stabilise their back-line.

The idea that the form-book goes out the window in derby games is a bit of a cliche but it has largely been accurate in this fixture of late with Leganes winning here last season at a time when Getafe were enjoying fantastic home form. Mallorca are the only team Geta have beaten at home in the league so far this season and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this turns into a typical scrappy derby match that may end up all square.
