It’s another Madrid derby for Atleti after they just about saw off Getafe on the opening weekend. Alvaro Morata’s header was the difference between the sides and this will be another real test of their credentials for the season ahead. Atleti have never won at Butarque in the top flight so victory would be a real statement from this re-jigged Atleti side.
They have a few selection issues though with the suspension of Renan Lodi forcing them into a change at left-back. They may opt to hand Mario Hermoso his first start in the role even though the former Espanyol man is a more natural centre-back. Further up the pitch, they may opt for continuity in midfield and attack with Joao Felix hoping to build on an exciting debut last weekend.
Leganes may have some rough stuff in store for the teenager though. They were unfortunate to lose against newly promoted Osasuna last weekend and will be hungry to avoid back-to-back home defeats here given they really do pride themselves on being tough to play against on their own ground. They managed to avoid defeat at home against all of the top six last term and if anything they have a stronger squad this time around.
They are likely to hand a debut to Roque Mesa in midfield here and while he’s only loan at the club, Leganes’ ability to attract him to Butarque is a sure sign of their growing stature. They are hampered by the absence of Oscar Rodriguez though following his sending off last weekend.

Leganes’ strong home record against the top sides is no fluke. They are very well organised at the back and everyone knows their job and Atleti in particular have found them very difficult to break down in recent seasons. That’s likely to be the case again here with the visitors still a work in progress and showing no signs of abandoning their tried and trusted approach despite a relatively free-scoring pre-season.
