Getafe vs Cadiz Preview

There’s a big game at the bottom end of the table to kick off Sunday’s action in LaLiga. Rock bottom Getafe host 16th placed Cadiz and it’s the kind of game that the hosts really need to be winning if they are going to recover from their woeful start and secure safety this season.
Getafe did manage to record their first win of the season in their most recent home game. A fine brace from Enes Unal lifted the gloom around the Coliseum in the 2-1 victory over Espanyol although they failed to build on that with a 1-0 defeat at Villarreal, their last result prior to the international break.
The Coliseum Alfonso Perez may not be one of the most intimidating grounds in the Spanish top flight but they have made it into something of a fortress in recent years under Jose Bordalas. This Getafe side may not be capable of putting long home winning streaks together but they have to at least become tough to beat on their own ground if they are going to stand a chance of beating the drop. Less than 5,000 attended their most recent home game with even season ticket holders reluctant to show up and sadly the club don’t help themselves much with the cheapest match tickets for this match again available at a hefty 40 Euros.
Cadiz will come here with belief following a surprise 1-0 win at San Mames in their last outing. That was 16 days ago though so there would have been some frustration in their camp that they’ve had to wait so long to play again. The only positive for them may be that they are again on the road.
Both of their league wins this season have come away and they probably should have 3 away victories to their name given they led Villarreal 3-1 going into the closing stages. As was the case in the early part of last season, their low-possession, counter-attacking style is much easier to employ on their travels, although it will be interesting to see how this game pans out with Getafe not exactly a team that is going to dominate games with their passing ability either.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Getafe Wins, 3 Cadiz Wins.
- Both meetings last season ended in away wins to nil.
- Getafe have though won 3 of their 4 home matches against Cadiz this century, scoring 3 in each of them.
- The 8 meetings overall in the 21st Century have produced 4 wins each.
Team News
Jakub Jankto remains out for Getafe. Sabit Abdulai is a doubt.
José Mari is a doubt for the visitors.
Possible Lineups
Getafe vs Cadiz Predictions
Score Prediction: Getafe 1-0 Cadiz
This is a really tough game to call and it may be the kind of game where the team that scores first goes on to win. Cadiz’s success on the road has come in the tougher away games but they have twice lost away to newly promoted opposition and this is the sort of game where they will need to show a bit more in possession. Getafe will take confidence from having finally broken their duck in their last home game and may just nick it, but a scoreless draw or low-scoring win either way would be no surprise.
