Ferencvaros vs Real Betis Preview

Real Betis were widely viewed to have overachieved last season but the way they’ve started this campaign is making some reconsider that opinion. The quality of some of their performances have been up there with the best we’ve seen so far in LaLiga this term and they’ll be hoping to make it two wins from two in the Europa League against Ferencvaros this Thursday.
They have no reason not to travel to Budapest full of confidence. They’ve played some terrific football since the international break, winning 4 of their 5 games in all competitions and scoring 13 goals in the process. 4 of those came in a dramatic opening group game against Celtic where Betis staged a fine comeback to win 4-3 having looked all at sea in the opening stages, going 2-0 down early on.
There are still defensive vulnerabilities in this team and a few questions for Manuel Pellegrini to resolve, including just who his best goalkeeper is. Claudio Bravo appears to have taken the number one spot from Rui Silva but the summer signing may get the nod here with some rotation expected. Betis have genuine options in a number of key positions now, including up front where Willian Jose staked his claim with a brace in the 2-0 win over Getafe at the weekend. He could potentially move ahead of Borja Iglesias as the Seville club’s first choice striker.
The opposition here comes in the form of Hungarian champions Ferencvaros. They are in European competitions virtually every season so are in some ways more experienced in terms of this kind of football and they did feature in the Champions League group stage last season. However they were beaten twice by Barceona in that competition with an aggregate score of 8-1 and failed to make it past the UCL play-off round this year with a 6-4 aggregate defeat to Young Boys sending them into the Europa League.
Betis can expect a test but it’s a game they ought to believe they can win. Ferencvaros started their Europa League group campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen but have won all three domestic matches since then, the most recent being a 3-1 home win against Ujpest at the weekend which leaves them 2nd in the Hungarian League.
Head to Head
- This will be the first ever competitive meeting.
Team News
The hosts are missing long-term absentee David Siger to injury.
Real Betis travel to Hungary without Victor Ruiz or Youssouf Sabaly. Key man Sergio Canales came off at the weekend at the break with Pellegrini keen to manage his workload but should start here.
Predicted Ferencvaros Starting Lineup:

Predicted Real Betis Starting Lineup:

Ferencvaros vs Real Betis Predictions
Score Prediction: Ferencvaros 1-2 Betis
This is a game that promises to serve up a few goals. Betis are usually a good watch and Ferencvaros matches so far this season in Europe have been high-scoring. Overall though, Betis have more quality and more match-winners in their ranks and in the form they are in, you have to fancy their chances of picking up all the points here.
