Eintracht Frankfurt vs Real Betis Preview

Real Betis are in Germany on Thursday night and they have plenty of work to do as they look to turn their Europa League tie with Eintracht Frankfurt around. The Bundesliga side lead 2-1 after goals from Filip Kostic and Daichi Kamada sealed victory at the Benito Villamarin last Thursday.
It was a disappointing night for Betis who have suffered a clear dip in form in recent weeks. The Frankfurt loss was their 5th winless game on the bounce in all competitions. They have a Copa del Rey Final on the horizon, as well as a push for Champions League qualification through LaLiga to worry about. You imagine Manuel Pellegrini will still go with his strongest eleven here but elimination may actually end up aiding their other objectives, although clearly Betis would still dearly love to progress into a European Quarter-Final.
They’ve not managed that feat since the 1997/98 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup when they came up against Chelsea They are certainly not out of this tie and did manage to get back to winning ways at the weekend by beating Athletic 1-0 in LaLiga. However it’s never easy going into an away 2nd Leg trailing and they’ll need to produce their best football here.
Eintracht Frankfurt have more recent memories of success on the European stage. They went all the way to the Semi-Finals of the 2018/19 Europa League and will be eyeing up another long run after that 1st Leg win in Seville. However they are not really a team that should give too many teams in this competition sleepless nights and are only currently 9th in the Bundesliga.
They do take a bit of form into this game though. A 2-1 weekend win over Bochum was their 3rd on the bounce in all competitions. It is worth noting though that Eintracht Frankfurt have kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 17 games which suggests they aren’t exactly the kind of side that are suited to shutting up shop and targeting the clean sheet that would take them through.
Head to Head
- Eintracht Frankfurt won the 1st Leg 2-1 in Seville.
- The sides had never previously met.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Real Betis Predictions
Score Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 2-2 Real Betis (Aggregate: 4-3)
This could be a really entertaining game as Betis have to go for it with only a win sufficient in the 90 minutes to either force Extra Time or send them through if they could build up a two goal margin. Eintracht Frankfurt have a few goals in them though and we’re certainly expecting a few at each end here but it may just be too big an ask for Betis who may live to regret their failings in the 1st Leg.
