Cadiz vs Real Betis Preview
The second leg of an Andalusian derby weekend double-header takes place on Saturday in LaLiga and it’s a big game for both sides. Cadiz are battling hard for safety while Betis are hoping to push city rivals Sevilla hard for that final Champions League spot.
The visitors will be expecting a tougher game than they might have had a couple of months back with Sergio having really got through to these Cadiz players and sparked something of a revival in their fortunes. Muchlike under Alvaro Cervera, it’s rarely pretty, but suddenly they look like an effective unit again and are much more solid defensively now than they were earlier in the campaign.
It’s just 1 defeat in 7 league games for Cadiz with a very impressive 5 clean sheets in that period. That includes wins in their last two home games, their first victories of the 2021/22 seasons at the Nuevo Mirandilla. They are out of the drop-zone as a result and victory here would move them 5 points clear of the bottom three and really ramp up the pressure on the sides below them who play later this weekend.
Betis though come into the game following a confidence-boosting 4-1 win over Osasuna last time out. They’d just hit a rough patch prior to that, dropping out of the Europa League and seemingly dropping out of the race for Champions League qualification. However a fabulous display from Juanmi, perhaps the biggest surprise success story of this LaLiga season, saw off the Pamplona side with the wide forward scoring two and assisting the other two.
That win leaves Manuel Pellegrini with something of a dilemma here. Borja Iglesias, Nabil Fekir and Sergio Canales all missed that game but are available again. It’s still expected that at least two, if not all three, will slot back into the team as Betis look to build momentum heading into their Copa del Rey Final later this month.
