Real Betis vs Barcelona Preview

Real Betis and Barcelona meet in an eyecatching midweek fixture in LaLiga Santander. The sides met in the Supercopa a few weeks ago and played out a good game which the Catalans won on penalties and we should get another competitive match here.
The home team come into this one on the back of a good weekend win at Getafe with Borja Iglesias converting a late penalty to seal a 1-0 triumph. It was Betis’ second win in the Madrid Communidad since the turn of the year having also beaten Rayo away but their overall form has been less convincing.
They were dumped out of the Copa del Rey at home by Osasuna and those two wins in Madrid are their only league triumphs since October. They’ve not been quite as impressive at the Benito Villamarin of late having started the season with five straight home league wins. It’s just 2 points from 3 home league games since then, but there should still be a really good atmosphere for this midweek clash and they can rely on all of their star players here with no injuries or suspensions to worry about.
Barcelona are also in a good place fitness-wise with Ousmane Dembele their only likely absentee. He has been in pretty good form so the Frenchman is a miss but they can at least finally count on Robert Lewandowski again following his 3 game suspension.
Barcelona won all of their matches without their Polish striker 1-0 and Xavi will be delighted with his team’s results during this period, even if the performances often left plenty to be desired. It was an opportunity missed for Ansu Fati who failed to take his chance to start a few games up front while there were also some issues defensively in the latter stages of their trip to Girona at the weekend as their Catalan neighbours put them under sustained pressure.
However Marc Andre Ter Stegen has been in stunning form in goal and is a big reason for their outstanding overall defensive record this season.

Score Prediction: Real Betis 1-1 Barcelona
This promises to be a high quality game with both sides at or very close to full strength. Barcelona are not conceding many goals but Betis have the tools to really test them here and with a big crowd behind them, the hosts look capable of getting a result.
