Villarreal are in danger of slipping back into bad, old habits as they come into this game on a bit of a slide down the table with points dropped in games they’d have expected to win. This feels like it could be another problematic outing for the Yellow Submarine and they have lost their last two home league matches against Osasuna.

This game will of course be at a different venue with the Ceramica still undergoing redevelopment work. However Villarreal could do with a bit of a lift from their fans as they look to move on from a poor run which has seen them pick up only 2 points from their last 4 league games with only 1 goal scored in that period.

Gerard Moreno’s continued injury problems are a factor in that but Unai Emery does have plenty of other options in attacking areas and needs to find some solutions and fast. They suffered defeat to a likely rival for European qualification last weekend and it could have been much worse than a 1-0 scoreline at the Reale Arena against Real Sociedad. On a brighter note, a 1-0 win in Vienna on Thursday ensures they have won their Conference League group with two games to spare but that competition is not a priority at this stage and they have been rotating heavily in it.

Osasuna meanwhile have also seen their form dip off after a bright start to the season. They won 4 of their opening 5 games but are without a win in 3 since. Home defeats against Getafe and Valencia suggest talk of a possible European push may be a bit premature but there was an excellent draw at Real Madrid in the middle of those two games.

Their approach to that match may also be their blueprint for success here. Osasuna are a well drilled team and Villarreal won’t find it easy to open them up. The visitors will look to the likes of Chimy Avila and if fit Ez Abde for a bit of inspiration at the other end. Those are two players who do offer them something a bit different and are capable of producing a moment of quality to potentially further Villarreal’s woes.
