Real Madrid returned to the top of the table this weekend with a convincing win whilst rivals Sevilla and Real Sociedad dropped points at home. It was also the weekend of the Barcelona derby and the return of Xavi which ended in three points in relatively unconvincing fashion for the hosts. | xG Under-Performer | VILLARREAL – 1 Goal from 2.72 xG |
| Highest Attendance | BARCELONA vs ESPANYOL – 74,418 |
| Lowest Attendance | RAYO VALLECANO vs MALLORCA – 6,708 |
It was a weekend of impressive attacking performances with four teams netting 3+ goals. Real Madrid were good value for their 4-1 win at Granada with 3.78 xG, the highest of any team on MD14 in LaLiga. Villarreal were the team to create the second most xG but they could only draw 1-1 at Celta with a number of chances missed throughout the game by the visitors who were made to pay by a Brais Mendez equaliser for the Galicians.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the weekend was bottom club Getafe scoring four goals. They’d only managed 6 in 13 matches prior to that this season and while they did massively outperform their xG, they were still worthy winners against a very poor Cadiz side who created little of note in the game.
Individual Stats
| Most Shots | RAFA MIR (Sevilla) – 6 |
| Most Completed Passes | ERIC GARCIA (Barcelona) – 86 |
| Most Key Passes | OSCAR TREJO (Rayo Vallecano) – 6 |
| Most Completed Dribbles | ABDE EZZALZOULI (Barcelona) – 6 |
| Most Aerials Won | JOSELU (Alaves), JORGE CUENCA (Getafe) & MATHIAS OLIVERA (Getafe) – 7 |
| Most Successful Tackles | QUINI (Getafe), VARAZDAT HAROYAN (Cadiz), SERGI GOMEZ (Espanyol) & JAVI GALAN (Celta) – 6 |
| Most Interceptions | JON MONCAYOLA (Osasuna) – 7 |
A trend is certainly emerging in some of these categories this season with Eric Garcia a regular feature when it comes to completing the most passes while the only surprise in the aerials won stats from this week was that Joselu had to share his usual crown with two other players.
More surprising is the sight of Barcelona teenager Abde Ezzalzouli. The 19 year old is yet to start a league game but completed 6 dribbles against Espanyol on Saturday in an electric Second Half display. That was the most of any player in LaLiga this weekend and Abde was only on the pitch for 45 minutes!
Elsewhere, Oscar Trejo’s performance for Rayo Vallecano against Mallorca on Monday night is certainly worth a special mention. He completed 93% of his passes, the highest figure in that game and it was by no means just safe balls with his tally of 6 key passes the highest of any player in LaLiga on matchday 14.
Sorare LaLiga Fantasy Team of the Week

Getafe’s dominant display against Cadiz sees three of their players make the team of the week. However Los Blancos went one better with Nacho, Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Vini Junior all featuring in an XI entirely featuring players from Madrid or Barcelona clubs.
The derby at Camp Nou saw Memphis Depay convert a penalty which was enough for the Dutchman to get himself into the XI but Sergi Gomez also had a good night for the visitors, winning six tackles, a joint high in LaLiga this week.
Rayo’s Oscar Trejo also features after his fine passing display against Mallorca with Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak completing the XI with a more assured display after a slow start to the season by his very high standards.
Sorare Player of the Week: Jorge Cuenca (100)
Jorge Cuenca pips Toni Kroos to be the Sorare player of the week with a higher all-round score. The 22 year old got on the scoresheet and put up some impressive numbers including the joint most aerials won this weekend in LaLiga.
Sorare is a Fantasy Football platform with one of the most advanced scoring matrices. All players are scored from 0-100 based on performance. You can read our latest Sorare content here to find out more about it.
