Barcelona vs Valencia predictions, H2H and match preview for this Saturday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as the visitors begin life under new management following a surprise coaching switch.
Barcelona vs Valencia Preview
Even before this week’s events, this was always going to be the most eagerly anticipated of the weekend fixtures in La Liga. However Valencia’s decision to fire coach Marcelino in midweek adds plenty more intrigue to this game which is a repeat of the Copa del Rey Final which Los Che famously won in March. Barcelona will be out for revenge here but they again head into this game without Leo Messi who is still recovering from an injury.
For once more of the attention at Camp Nou will be on the opposition though. Rumblings of a breakdown in the relationship between the Marcelino and Valencia owner Peter Lim have been a regular theme over recent months and to some extent it was no surprise to see Marcelino shown the door despite the many things he accomplished with this team on the pitch. The timing was still curious though, coming towards the end of the international break, following on from their first victory of the season against Mallorca.
New boss Albert Celades has something of a baptism of fire here. It will be tough for him to take over from a coach who was clearly popular in the dressing room and he will have had precious little time to gear up his side for a trip to Camp Nou which is immediately followed by a big away day at Chelsea in the Champions League.
He can take some encouragement from the unconvincing start to the season Barcelona have made. They are already 5 points behind leaders Atletico Madrid and they could really have done with Messi back here against a side they failed to beat in 3 matches last season. Youngster Carles Perez is expected to be given another chance to impress on the right of a front three which should also feature Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez.
Barcelona vs Valencia Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Barcelona
On the surface, Albert Celades is a slightly underwhelming appointment for Valencia and he might be wise to try not to tinker too much with what has been a pretty successful counter-attacking approach that Los Che have used in these kind of games. They should ask questions of the Catalans on the break but Barca should control the game in midfield and with the likes of Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann up top, they ought to have enough firepower to win the game.
