These sides met at the Bernabeu early on last season with Levante surprise 2-1 winners in one of the first signs that all was not well with Los Blancos. They are a dangerous counter-attacking team on their day but they have struggled for any kind of consistency on the road since that famous victory. Real Madrid will be targeting revenge here having failed to win either of their last two home games against the Valencia club.
Los Blancos should at least to be able to finally hand a competitive debut to Eden Hazard. The Belgian’s absence has meant Real have had to cope without the one player they signed in the summer that will almost certainly improve their starting eleven this term. Real didn’t miss him too much in Vigo on the opening weekend but they’ve been held to draws in their last two matches and Zinedine Zidane will be expecting his troops to step it up a gear here.
Levante come into this game above their illustrious opponents in the table. They bounced back from an opening day defeat to Alaves with home wins over Villarreal and Valladolid. They have perhaps ridden their luck a touch to have 6 points on the board though with a few decisions going in their favour. They do have the reputation for being a decent away side but their recent results don’t bear that out with 10 defeats from their last 13 on the road in La Liga.
They will almost certainly to do what they did on this ground last season by breaking with pace and particularly trying to give Jose Luis Morales the chance to run in behind this Real Madrid defence which is still prone to a few too many errors. As well as the debut for Hazard, Real Madrid could hand a start to James Rodriguez in midfield and he also feels like something of a new signing following two years on loan with Bayern Munich.
