Five Star Barcelona & Madrid
Leo Messi is back…..

After a rare weekend off due to the postponement of the Clasico, both Barcelona and Real Madrid returned with convincing victories at home. Leo Messi put in his best showing of the season so far with an absolute masterclass to demolish Real Valladolid at Camp Nou. Valladolid had restricted Barca to 1-0 victories last season in both meetings but they never threatened to do likewise this time around. Messi scored two and assisted two to see the Catalans on their way to a convincing 5-1 win.
Real Madrid were equally dominant in their game against bottom club Leganes. The managerless visitors were two down inside eight minutes with Rodrygo and Toni Kroos on target and by the time Sergio Ramos converted a 24th minute penalty it was all over. In the end, 5-0 almost flattered Leganes who perhaps always had one eye on what is a much bigger game this weekend at home to Eibar.

The standout fixture of La Liga matchday 11 was Valencia’s meeting with Sevilla at the Mestalla. These two sides have been the principal candidates for Spain’s 4th Champions League position for a number of years but both have shown frailties this term and there was little about Wednesday’s game that will really cause any fear for the likes of Real Sociedad and Villarreal who also have their eyes on 4th. Lucas Ocampos looked to have set Sevilla on course for an overdue win at the Mestalla but Valencia grabbed a late leveller thanks to Ruben Sobrino’s goal to ensure the match finished 1-1.

There was a real pressure game at the Benito Villamarin on Wednesday night as two under-performing sides met with Real Betis playing host to Celta Vigo. Questions have been raised about the futures of both coaches over the past week but it was Betis boss Rubi who got the result he badly needed here.
It came in dramatic fashion with Nabil Fekir firing home on the stroke of 90 minutes to seal a 2-1 win. Fran Escriba’s future in Vigo looks even more precarious as a result and Sunday’s home game against Getafe may be a must win, if he even makes it that far.
Matchday 11 in Numbers
- Barcelona scored 5 at home, for the 3rd team this season in 5 league outings at Camp Nou (5-2 vs Betis, 5-2 vs Valencia, 5-1 vs Valladolid).

- Atletico Madrid were held to their 4th draw in 5 matches in La Liga.
- Only Osasuna (6) have drawn more games than Atleti this season.
- Both teams have scored in 67% of Getafe home games this season in La Liga compared to just 26% last term.
