This Saturday’s early game in La Liga sees Real Valladolid back in action with the new boys hoping to extend their bright start to the season against Eibar. The Basques have had a more mixed time of it but they remain one of the true minnows in this league and their current 12th place suggests they are more than capable of again extending their top flight stay.

Eibar’s style hasn’t really changed much. They still like to get the ball wide and get lots of crosses into the box. That has resulted in five headed goals scored this season, the second highest figure in the division. Valladolid will certainly know what to expect here but that doesn’t mean they will be able to stop it against an Eibar side that were good value for their late win over high-flying Alaves last weekend.

Valladolid meanwhile might just have considered themselves very unfortunate to leave the Bernabeu with no points in their last match. They rattled the bar twice in the Second Half and missed a couple of good chances before Real’s late goals, a fortunate deflected strike and a penalty. It ended a fine run of 5 wins from 6 in all competitions.

The early signs are that they have enough, certainly in defence, to keep them in this league. Only Espanyol and Atletico have conceded fewer goals than Valladolid so far this term and they will be hoping to restrict Eibar to limited chances here with the visitors not having much joy on the road so far this term.

Both sides actually put in very good performances last weekend and this may be a better game than it sounds. Valladolid are the favourites but Eibar are wily characters with more experience at this level and they have enough about them to come away with a point.
