Espanyol vs Eibar Preview
This Tuesday’s game between Espanyol and Eibar kicks off the midweek action in La Liga and starts a period of 7 consecutive days of matches in the Spanish top flight. It features two sides that are currently locked on 7 points from 5 matches and overall both Espanyol and Eibar will be pleased with that return.
Espanyol are the favourites for this one and they have won both home games so far this term by seeing off the two Valencia clubs at the RCDE Stadium. They gave a good account of themselves at the Bernabeu at the weekend too, falling only to a narrow 1-0 loss. It remains to be seen though whether this is something of a honeymoon period for Rubi or whether the foundations are being laid for an improved season as the Catalan club look to maintain their current top half position.
Eibar will do well to better their excellent 9th place from last term but any fears that they would be in for a tricky campaign look to have been eased by an impressive run of form which has seen them recover from back-to-back defeats on match-days one and two. Were it not for conceding a Stoppage Time goal at the Wanda Metropolitano, they’d be heading into this one following three straight wins.
Espanyol vs Eibar Predictions
Score Prediction: Espanyol 1-0 Eibar
This is a tough one to call and it’s not a game that promises to deliver many goals. Espanyol have been really solid defensively so far and even Real Madrid’s star-studded side struggled to break them down at the weekend. Eibar are bidding to become the first visiting team to score at the RCDE Stadium this term and they may find that a tough task. At the other end, Espanyol have just enough quality to remain a threat and provide service for their main summer signing Borja Iglesias up top. His finishing prowess could be key in settling a game that is unlikely to produce many chances.
- 12 of Espanyol’s last 14 games in La Liga have produced two or fewer goals.
- They are chasing a 4th straight home league win here.
- Eibar have only lost 1 of their last 6 away in the top flight.
- Eibar are unbeaten in 4 against Espanyol.
- They did the double over them in La Liga last term (1-0 away and 3-1 in the Basque Country).

The Espanyol front-man came close to netting an equaliser at the Bernabeu at the weekend and has made a decent start to his career with the Barcelona club. He should be their main goal threat here.
