Atletico Madrid vs Huesca Preview
Only a few weeks have passed since Huesca were on the wrong end of an 8-2 mauling at Camp Nou so it will be interesting to see how they approach this. They’ve been admirably bold in their approach to top flight life so far, committing bodies forward and taking risks in the pursuit of goals. The signs are that Leo Franco is going to persist with that approach and that would certainly make for an interesting contest as he takes his side to take on Atletico Madrid this Tuesday.
Diego Simeone’s men have looked much more like their old selves in their last two matches. Impressive wins on the road at Monaco in the Champions League and Eibar in La Liga suggest they have put some early season problems behind them and the likes of Thomas Lemar and Rodri now appear to be settling better into their midfield. There is surely more to come though from Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa up top with the Atleti front two having netted just one goal between them so far this term in La Liga.
This in theory should be a good chance for both players to end their relative goal droughts. Huesca have conceded in every game they’ve played so far this term and have the worst overall defensive record in La Liga, although clearly that one trip to Camp Nou is a big reason for that. Overall though their early season bubble does seem to have burst with back-to-back home defeats following that. However they would have spent the weekend wondering just how they failed to get anything from their home clash with 9 man Real Sociedad on Friday night.
Atletico Madrid vs Huesca Predictions
Score Prediction: Atletico Madrid 3-1 Huesca
Huesca have been bold in their approach and that’s admirable but there have still been too many moments where their inexperience at this level has shown and against a revitalised Atleti team that could be their downfall. Diego Simeone’s men are often happier playing against teams that at least try and have a go and Leo Franco is likely to stick with his relatively attacking approach as he returns to his former club. However the gulf in quality is so great that an open game should only lead to one result and that’s a relatively comfortable Atletico Madrid victory.
Match Stats
- Diego Costa hasn’t scored in La Liga in 7 months since netting at Sevilla in February.
- He has been booked 5 times since his last league goal.
- Atleti have only won 4 of their last 11 league matches.
- Huesca have scored exactly twice in all of their three away games so far in La Liga.
- 50% of their goals have come courtesy of Álex Gallar.
- They’ve scored once more than Atleti this season.

Thomas Lemar opened his Atleti account at the weekend. The French winger will be hoping it’s the start of things to come as he looks to get back on the goal trail here against Huesca.
