Spain football trips

spanish football trips

For all things related to Spain football trips, we’ve got you covered with advice on buying tickets, travelling around the country and having the best Spanish football experience.

Regions

Spain is a culturally diverse and highly regionalised country with some proud and distinct local identities. Those certainly manifest themselves on the terraces of football stadiums, particularly when any of the biggest local derbies are taking place.

We have guides for most of the major regions. These may be a good starting point for anyone planning a football trip to Spain:

Madrid | Catalunya | Basque Country | Valencian Community | Canary Islands | Balearic Islands

It’s also worth noting that Spain has an excellent high-speed rail network which links Madrid to cities like Barcelona, Seville and Valencia in under three hours. It’s easily possible to catch more than one La Liga game on any given weekend.

Stadiums

The 2020s have been a busy decade of stadium renovations across Spain, with much of that gearing up to the 2030 World Cup, which the country will co-host along with Portugal and Morocco.

We have guides for the following La Liga stadiums:

Santiago Bernabeu | Estadio Metropolitano | San Mames

Ticketing

Visitors to Spain hoping to catch some football can usually get tickets quite easily via the home club, potentially even on matchday itself. However, it does vary and certain fixtures attract far greater demand – it’s much harder and more expensive to get tickets for El Clasico, for example!

Frustrations can include the late release of final schedules (typically exact kick-off times and dates are only announced around a month beforehand), while some clubs only release tickets for general sale a week or so before matchday.

We have specific advice for how to buy tickets for the “big three” clubs in La Liga here:

Real Madrid tickets | Barcelona tickets | Atletico Madrid tickets
