Barcelona vs Real Betis Preview

Barcelona face Real Betis in a fixture which usually guarantees goals on Saturday at Camp Nou. There have been 5+ goals in all of the last 7 meetings between these clubs with the Catalans winning every one with the exception of a memorable 4-3 victory for Betis in Barcelona in 2018.
Those matches were contested by a Barcelona side that contained the considerable attacking talents of Leo Messi and a few others who have since departed the club. Scoring lots of goals is not something that has come naturally to this current crop although they did put in an improved attacking display with a 3-1 win at Villarreal last weekend.
That made it back-to-back league wins for Barcelona under new boss Xavi Hernandez. However he will have to think carefully about his selection policy here with a vital Champions League trip to Munich coming up on Wednesday. With the likes of Pedri and Ansu Fati still out, there aren’t that many options for rotation in the midfield and attacking areas though and youngster Ez Abde looks set for another start, having impressed so far.
Betis are missing key man Nabil Fekir which will be music to the ears of Barcelona supporters. However the Frenchman is by no means the only attacking weapon that Betis have. Sergio Canales is having another strong season while Willian Jose has arrived to offer genuine competition for Borja Iglesias up front.
Betis’ top scorer though comes as a big surprise. Following a hat-trick against Levante last weekend, Juanmi now has 8 league goals to his name. Only Karim Benzema and Vini Junior have more in LaLiga this term and it’s a remarkable return given he’d only managed 3 league goals in total during his previous two seasons at the Benito Villamarin.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 5 Barcelona Wins, 1 Real Betis Win.
- Barcelona have won all of the last 5 meetings.
- All of the last 6 have seen both teams score and 5+ goals.
- The last 2 meetings here have seen Barcelona win 5-2 following on from a 4-3 Betis win in 2018.
Team News
Ansu Fati, Pedri and Martin Braithwaite are still out for the hosts.
Nabil Fekir is banned for the visitors who have doubts over Martin Montoya, Claudio Bravo and Germán Pezzella.
Possible Lineups
Barcelona vs Real Betis Predictions
Score Prediction: Barcelona 3-2 Real Betis
Betis are usually positive wherever they play and that could set us up for another really entertaining game between these sides. Nabil Fekir’s absence is significant and may just tilt it in favour of the hosts but we should see chances and goals at both ends of the pitch with neither side fully convincing defensively.
