Girona vs Real Betis Preview

The last game of the 2022/23 season at the Estadi Montilivi takes place on Sunday as Girona host Real Betis. The hosts will aim to put on a positive performance in front of their home supporters to round off an excellent season, whilst Betis will be looking to seal their place in next season’s Europa League with a point or more.
Girona’s last outing was a 1-1 draw away at Celta, which was far from easy on the eye. Cristhian Stuani scored a second half penalty to equalise for the Catalan side, whilst goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga made some top saves late on to secure a point for Michel’s men.
Girona have enjoyed a strong campaign after returning to LaLiga, winning as many as thirteen games and playing some fantastic football along the way. The hosts will be looking to win their last game of the season at Montilivi and all but secure a place in the top half of the table.
Real Betis come into this match after a shock 1-0 defeat at home to relegation candidates Getafe. Another match which was not necessarily a great watch was settled by a stunning header from Omar Alderete in the second half, which came as the defender’s first goal for Getafe. Although disappointing, this loss did not have any effect on Betis’ top four hopes, with those being lost in the past few weeks.
Betis have endured a mixed campaign, failing to truly make an impact in Europe or retain their Copa Del Rey title. However, a point at Montilivi this weekend would secure the club’s spot in next season’s Europa League, which cannot be seen as a failure.

Although this match comes as one of the few games this weekend with not a lot on the line, both sides are capable of playing top level football and perhaps that will be even more on show given the lack of pressure on both teams. Overall, we expect an entertaining match which may see Betis grasp the point they need.
