Getafe vs Mallorca Preview
Getafe and Mallorca clash in the opening game on Friday in LaLiga. It’s a clash of two of the most direct teams in the division and everything points to a really tight game of few chances.
Of the two, Getafe were more fancied before the season but they haven’t really got going yet and are down in 15th place. That has led to a buildup of pressure on Quique Sanchez-Flores who did brilliantly last season to lead them to safety after a woeful start but his team appear to be in another relegation scrap.
Their home record has been particularly dire with an average of just 0.86 points per game at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez clearly in need of improvement. They had at least started to defend better with only 4 conceded in their last 6 league outings but that has come at the cost of a reduced goal threat with Enes Unal by far their most threatening attacking player again. Keeping hold of him will be a major priority in January.
As for Mallorca, there is also an element of dependency to their attacking play with Vedat Muriqi doing an excellent job of leading the line so far. Kang in Lee, who featured at the World Cup, has supported him well but it’s defensively where Mallorca have really excelled so far this term.
They have let in just 13 goals in 14 games, giving the Balearic side the 4th best defensive record in the division. They’ve impressively won their last two away games too with excellent victories at Villarreal and Valencia meaning only four teams have picked up more away points than Mallorca this term. They should travel to the capital with confidence as a result and will be hoping to pick up exactly where they left off.

These teams both take a low-possession approach to things and at times play very directly. They also both play with a back three which should aid their ability to defend against one another’s crosses and long balls and it feels like this will be a game of very few chances and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if it ended goalless.
