Girona vs Real Sociedad Preview

Real Sociead travel to Catalunya this weekend looking for three points away to newly promoted Girona. Just 3 points separate the teams in the current table and the hosts could leapfrog their opponents if they can pick up the win.
The early signs are reasonably positive for Girona this term. Wins over Getafe and Real Valladolid at Montilivi have given them a platform from which to build. They were also quite impressive in defeat away to high-flying Betis just before the international break. Girona could easily have taken a point away from the Benito Villamarin but succumbed to a brace from Borja Iglesias.
There is more good news for Girona with talisman Cristhian Stuani back in training after a heart scare. He could be available for selection here and his presence should be a lift for this young side. It’ll be interesting to see whether the Uruguayan is going to be a regular starter this season though with Taty Castellanos currently doing a good job of leading the line while Reinier and Rodrigo Riquelme have settled into the side in his absence in the other attacking roles.
What Real Sociedad would give for a fit finisher like Stuani in their ranks. They’ve made a solid start to the campaign on the pitch but they are already feeling the toll of an injury crisis which will rule at least eight players out here. That includes most of their main attacking talents with Mikel Oyarzabal and Umar Sadiq among those missing to long-term issues.
The midfield does look in good shape though so they are still managing to exert plenty of control on games. Martin Zubimendi continues to impress at the base of the midfield while the likes of Mikel Merino, David Silva and Brais Mendez all bring something a bit different and ensure La Real regularly create opportunities for their forward players. Mendez has proved an inspired signing so far with the former Celta man netting 4 goals already in all competitions.
