Alaves vs Sevilla Preview
Alaves and Sevilla face off as LaLiga matchday 27 kicks off. On the back of their important derby win, Sevilla have the chance to close the gap at the top to 3 points and put some pressure on leaders Real Madrid who host Real Sociedad 24 hours later.
There is plenty at stake for Alaves too here though with the Basque side in the thick of a relegation battle. They come into this game just one place off the bottom and four points off safety, a margin which has the potential to grow this weekend if they fail to pull off an upset here.
Alaves did get a point on the road last time out, although in the circumstances, they will sense an opportunity missed. They twice took the lead against a Getafe side that had been reduced to 10 men after just 32 minutes but failed to make the most of their numerical superiority to only draw 2-2 at the Coliseum. It was a worrying sign for José Luis Mendilibar and his team and it’s just 1 win in 14 league games heading into this for Alaves, although that did come in their most recent home outing against Valencia.
They will do well to improve on that record here. Just when it looked like Sevilla were in danger of slipping out of serious title contention, they produced a performance to suggest there may yet be life in this race last weekend. Despite considerable selection issues which left them risking an unfit Diego Carlos, they produced a fairly dominant derby display against Betis, racing into a 2-0 lead and ultimately claiming a vital 2-1 win despite Sergio Canales’ late strike.
They were good value for the three points and should be able to rely on a stronger starting XI here. Jules Kounde returns from a ban to bolster the defence while Lucas Ocampos is also available again. The rest may just have done both a bit of good but the games will come thick and fast for Sevilla again after this match with West Ham visiting the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan in the Europa League this coming week.

Alaves vs Sevilla Predictions
Score Prediction: Alaves 0-2 Sevilla
This will be a stronger Sevilla side than we saw last weekend and that derby win would have done them plenty of good in terms of boosting morale for the next busy stretch. Alaves haven’t been impressive this season, no matter who has been in charge, and you have to fancy the visitors to pick up all three points here.
