Granada vs Mallorca Preview

Granada in action in LaLiga

Granada and Mallorca face off on Sunday in LaLiga with both teams hoping to put distance between themselves and the bottom three. The visitors have largely done that already and could reflect on a really strong start to the season over the festive period by picking up another win here.

They are up against a Granada side that is unbeaten in their last three league games. They did leave it late to salvage a point at Cadiz on matchday 17 though with Jorge Molina netting another very important late goal as he did against former club Getafe earlier in the campaign. Momentum can be key for teams at the bottom of this league and avoiding defeats does breed confidence so it was a significant moment, particularly against a likely relegation rival.

However Granada did suffer a blow in midweek with an embarrassing Copa del Rey defeat at Segunda RFEF side Atletico Mancha Real. Even Granada’s reserve team are higher ranked than them and it certainly wasn’t a good look for Robert Moreno’s side although in truth the cup was never going to be a big target this season with league survival the primary objective in this difficult first year post Diego Martinez.

Mallorca have a similar goal and are closer to achieving it with 4 more points to their name than their opponents here. They also come into this one unbeaten in 3 league games including a shock victory away to Atletico Madrid with Take Kubo’s late winner a fortnight ago sealing a wonderful win for the Balearic side.

Their last league game was played out in atrocious conditions in Palma with high winds making their clash with Celta Vigo tough for the two teams. Both ended up with pass completion rates of less than 60% in a match that ended 0-0. Luis Garcia’s side made it 5 games unbeaten in all competitions in midweek with a 6-0 win at Llanera in the Copa del Rey so they should travel to Andalusia in good spirits.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Granada Wins, 1 Mallorca Win, 1 Draw.
  • Granada won both meetings in the 2019/20 season – the last time the sides met.
  • They’ve won the last 2 meetings at Los Carmenes 1-0.
  • Mallorca haven’t won against Granada since a 2-1 win here in 2013.

Team News

Darwin Machís is out injured for Granada. Domingos Duarte, Victor Diaz and Rubén Rochina may also be missing.

Matthew Hoppe, Joan Sastre and Antonio Raíllo are out injured. Amath Ndiaye and Lago Junior are doubts.

Possible Lineups

Granada vs Mallorca Predictions

Score Prediction: Granada 1-1 Mallorca

It’s tough to pick a winner here. Mallorca have been the more impressive of the two teams this season overall but they’ll probably be content to leave Los Carmenes with a point to maintain their current advantage on Granada and the teams at the bottom.
