Real Sociedad vs Elche Preview
Real Sociedad are back at the Reale Arena and with a good chance of building on a bright start to the season against Elche. The visitors hadn’t been doing badly themselves but were on the wrong end of a heavy defeat in midweek at Villarreal and will see any kind of result as a major bonus here.
There was an unlikely match winner for La Real in their midweek game at Granada. Aritz Elustondo had only scored 2 goals in the previous 3 seasons in LaLiga heading into the match but the centre-back scored a brace in a 3-2 victory with all of the Basque team’s goals coming after the break. Mikel Merino was also on target to continue his bright start to the season and La Real are up to 3rd as a result.
Top six will be the minimum goal for Real Sociedad this season again and it’s tough to know exactly what their ceiling is. There was a brief spell last season where they looked like they might be unlikely title contenders but they faded quite dramatically during the winter months. It’s possible the demands of a lot of football will take their toll again and right now a long injury list is a major concern with no fewer than nine players ruled out of this through injury.
Elche will be hoping to take advantage of that as they travel north to Donostia. Their relatively strong start came to a fairly sudden end as they were well beaten at the Estadio Ceramica, losing by a 4-1 margin. Fran Escriba will want a reaction here but it’s another tough game and the visitors are likely to rotate in some areas of the pitch with the Elche boss still in the process of figuring out his best XI.
There is a strong Argentinian contingent in this squad, including the likes of Javier Pastore. He could be a major asset if they can get him fully fit but it does feel like a signing which represents quite a big gamble given the former PSG man hasn’t started more than 14 league games in a single season since way back in 2014/15.

Real Sociedad vs Elche Predictions
Score Prediction: Real Sociedad 2-1 Elche
Imaonol has no choice but just to keep the same players in some areas of the pitch due to injuries so there could be a bit of fatigue amongst the home camp here. Overall though, they have more quality than Elche and with home advantage should still have the edge.
