One of the standout fixtures this weekend sees Real Betis play host to Real Madrid at the Benito Villamarín. COVID-19 measures in Andalusia aren’t as strict as in some regions so there will be a decent crowd in for this game and we may well get the best atmosphere of the season so far as the Betis fans look to roar their team on to a famous victory.

Manuel Pellegrini will be a bit disappointed that his team come into this one having yet to record their first victory of the new season. Fixtures against newly promoted Mallorca and Cadiz gave them a good chance to make a bright start but both ended in 1-1 draws. With European football coming up after the international break, their schedule will get busier so they could have done with putting a few more points on the board during the opening weeks of the season.

They could still do that of course here. Betis certainly won’t fear Real Madrid and can take confidence from having only lost 1 of their last 15 home league games. They were left frustrated by Cadiz last Friday Monday night though as they failed to see off their fellow Andalusians despite enjoying 75% possession.

Those stats should be considerably more even here but Betis would have taken encouragement from the gaps that appeared in the Real Madrid defence at Levante last weekend. An incredibly open Second Half saw Los Blancos concede three times in a thrilling match that ultimately ended 3-3.

Real Madrid’s ability to move on and keep it tight at the back without Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane was always going to be key to determining how successful this season would be and there are certainly some worrying early signs. Injuries to his first-choice full-backs have compounded the problem early doors for Carlo Ancelotti but on a brighter note, he would have been very impressed by the performance of Vini Junior last weekend. The Brazilian came on to score two excellent goals that ultimately salvaged a point for Los Blancos and he may be preferred to Gareth Bale in the starting lineup here.

Team News

Predicted Betis Starting Lineup:

Silva – Miranda, Ruiz, Gonzalez, Montoya – Guardado, Rodriguez – Fekir, Canales, Juanmi – Iglesias (4-2-3-1)

Predicted Real Madrid Starting Lineup:

Courtois – Alaba, Militao, Nacho, Carvajal – Valverde, Casemiro, Isco – Hazard, Benzema, Vini (4-3-3)

Real Betis vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-2 Real Madrid

Betis’ strong home record suggests this will be a really tough evening for Real Madrid. The visitors still have some significant injury problems but Dani Carvajal may be able to return which should settle things down a bit at the back. Betis haven’t been clinical enough to kill games off so far this season though and a draw looks more likely than a home win.
