The Monday night action in LaLiga comes in the form of an Andalusian derby at the Benito Villamarin. While there is plenty of focus on how exciting things are at both the top and bottom of LaLiga, the battle for the lesser European places has slightly slipped under the radar, but things would get very interesting should the visitors come out on top here.

Betis have looked destined for European qualification for much of the second half of this season but a sequence of six straight league draws has just opened a window of opportunity up for the teams beneath them. Not since their 2-0 win over Levante in mid March has a Betis game produced a result and Manuel Pellegrini will be a little concerned by his team’s recent failure to kill games off.

Their most recent draw came away to Real Valladolid where they were pegged back having taken the lead through Aitor Ruibal. On paper they have a reasonably good run of fixtures to end the season but clashes with relegation threatened Eibar and Huesca won’t be easy with those sides fighting for their lives and it’s important they get a result here.

Granada will travel across Andalusia full of belief having won at Camp Nou in their most recent away game. Their late season charge to reach Europe last term should also give them belief but they do come into this game following a real setback – a 1-0 home loss against Cadiz last time out.

The good news for Diego Martinez’s side is that eight days have passed since that match, a rare rest period in what has been an incredibly congested season for a Granada side that started out in the Europa League qualifiers and progressed to the quarter-final stage in that competition as well as the Copa del Rey. Their overall league form has been a bit mixed with 4 wins and 4 losses from their last 8 games but victory here would push them right back into contention for European qualification.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Betis Win, 3 Granada Wins, 2 Draws.
  • Granada won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier this season.
  • However they haven’t won on any of their last 4 visits to the Benito Villamarin.
  • The last two meetings in Seville both ended 2-2.

Team News

Nabil Fekir and Aissa Mandi are banned for the hosts. Diego Lainez is an injury doubt.

Roberto Soldado is suspended for the visitors. Rui Silva and Kenedy are rated doubtful.

Predicted Real Betis Starting Lineup:

Bravo – Miranda, Ruiz, Bartra, Emerson – Rodriguez, Guardado – Tello, Canales, Ruibal – Iglesias (4-2-3-1)

Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:

Aaron – Quini, Sanchez, Perez, Foulquier – Gonalons, Montoro, Herrera – Machis, Molina, Puertas (4-3-3)

Real Betis vs Granada Prediction: 1-1 Draw

Betis only seem to be drawing matches right now and you wouldn’t bet against a repeat here. These two sides are quite evenly matched and while home advantage might ordinarily swing it into Betis’ favour, they’d probably be content enough to take a point and maintain a healthy advantage on their opponents and the other sides hoping to catch them in the European battle.
