Valencia vs Athletic Bilbao Preview
Valencia and Athletic Club clash in an important game in the race for Europa League football on Wednesday. It’s Valencia’s first fixture since they sacked Albert Celades and it will see perennial interim boss Voro take charge once again.
Celades could have few complaints really to lose his job after a sequence of 8 defeats in 13 matches and a season when a few impressive wins aside, they look to have gone backwards. It was always going to be tough following Marcelino but their standards have slipped, particularly at the back and they were fortunate to only lose 2-0 against an impressive Villarreal side at the weekend.
Athletic Club meanwhile head into this game after a 3-1 win over Mallorca. Young striker Asier Villalibre was on target again and he looks like he could have a big role to play moving forward, particularly if the Basque giants can find a way to sneak into the Europa League. They take decent form into this game with just 1 defeat in their last 7 league matches.
Valencia’s injury problems did ease a bit over the pause to the season but they are still missing a few defenders here and a suspension to José Gaya is the latest setback. Athletic by contrast should head to Mestalla with a fully fit squad although there may be some rotation from Gaizka Garitano.

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
We should see some kind of reaction from Valencia to such a poor showing at the Ceramica and the subsequent sacking of their boss. However Athletic are a tough side to beat at the moment and look hungry to make a strong push for Europa League qualification. They look capable of getting at least a draw here.
