Barcelona vs Eibar Preview
Barcelona are back at Camp Nou this Saturday for what in theory shouldn’t be a massive test at home to a struggling Eibar side. The Catalans will of course have one eye on next week’s massive Champions League trip to Napoli but they can’t afford any slip-ups here and they approach this game in the knowledge that they will return to the top for a few hours at least with victory.
It has been another eventful week off the pitch in Barcelona. It started with allegations that the board had hired a PR team to attack some of their own players on social media. It ended with Leo Messi giving another interview in which he referred to the ‘strange things’ going on at the club. You know things are bad when Messi is finding the need to talk.
There was also a new signing as Martin Braithwaite arrived from Leganes for €18m after the club were granted permission to make an emergency signing. He will most likely warm the bench for much of the remainder of the season but it does at least give Quique Setien another option should he wish to rotate.
As for Eibar, they head into this one in mixed form with 2 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats from their last 8 in La Liga. They are starting to look a bit vulnerable now though with the likes of Celta Vigo and Espanyol showing signs of life below them. They’ve only won once away all season and they could be involved in their first real relegation scrap since their first season in the top flight, when they should have been relegated but were given a reprieve courtesy of financial problems at Elche.

Score Prediction: 2-0 Barcelona
It’s hard to make much of a case for Eibar here. They aren’t great travellers at the best of times and don’t look to have enough firepower to seriously trouble Barcelona. On a more positive note, they haven’t been conceding many of late with only 4 goals let in across their last 7 league games. They could restrict the Catalans to a relatively narrow victory but a home win it should be.
