Granada vs Real Valladolid Preview

Copa del Rey Semi-Finalists Granada are back in action this weekend as they host Real Valladolid in La Liga. It promises to be a tight game between two of the division’s most organised sides, both of whom are punching above their weight relative to their respective budgets.

Granada fans couldn’t have dreamt that their return to the top flight would have gone as well as this. They remain safely nestled in mid-table which has given them a bit of freedom to really put a lot of energy into their cup efforts. They were beaten at 1-0 at San Mames in the 1st Leg of their Semi-Final with Athletic this week but will still fancy they can turn things around with home advantage in the 2nd Leg in three weeks time. They’d love to have put a couple more leagues wins on the board by then and with a 64% home win ratio in La Liga this term, they’ll fancy they can do just that here.

Real Valladolid cannot be underestimated though. They are a year further along in their top flight project and while investment has been relatively limited despite the high-profile takeover, Sergio has compiled a competitive side that fights for every last ball. It’s one that has suffered just one defeat in six league matches heading into this.

The visitors may smell blood here if they sense there could be a bit of fatigue in the Granada camp following all their cup exploits. That’s not to say they are going to come here and be too adventurous though. Sergio knows his side’s limitations and with both teams likely to play 4-4-2, there’s a chance they may cancel each other out.

Granada vs Real Valladolid Predictions

Score Prediction: 0-0 Draw

Truth be told this doesn’t have the makings of a classic. Granada are the favourites given their fine home record but they are without Roberto Soldado and Domingos Duarte due to suspension and may struggle to match their usual intensity following another busy week in the Copa. It’s hard to see many goals in this and a bore draw might be the outcome.
