Granada vs Valencia Preview

The Copa del Rey Quarter-Final action kicks off in Andalusia on Tuesday night. Granada have already enjoyed a fantastic season and progress into the last four of the cup would put the cherry on top of that. Their impressive home record this term will give them reason to believe as they take on holders Valencia.

Granada rode their luck at times against Espanyol on Saturday but came away with a vital 2-1 win, a result which moved them onto 30 points and makes it almost impossible to see how they won’t be playing top flight football again next term. That should free them up a bit to put all their effort and energy into this game. They’ve made excellent progress in the Copa del Rey so far but they have been dealt favourable draws, none of which have been against sides from either of the top two divisions until now.

We’ve seen plenty of teams slip up in such games though and Valencia came very close to a shock exit in the last round. They were taken all the way to penalties by Segunda B outfit Cultural Leonesa. However the defending champions held their nerve to win the shootout and while they weren’t completely convincing at the weekend against Celta Vigo, they did win again and have now kept four consecutive clean sheets since going down 4-1 at Mallorca last month.

Valencia have been dealt a major blow though with centre-back Ezequiel Garay set to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. Both sides are likely to bring in some fresh legs here but we should still strong elevens from both coaches given this is a cup quarter-final and it will be decided on the night.

Granada vs Valencia Predictions

Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw

This will be a real test for Valencia. Granada are a tough side to play against at home and while they are perhaps not quite as good as their league position suggests, they never roll over at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes. This could easily go to Extra Time and perhaps penalties.
