Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid predictions, H2H and match preview for this Saturday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as these two old rivals meet for the second time in less than a month.
Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Preview
The third Madrid derby of the season takes place this weekend in La Liga and if the first two are anything to go by, it could be tight. These clubs know each other so well by now but it’s certainly Real Madrid who head into this derby in the better spirits having built on their Supercopa triumph with some good results in league and cup.
Including their penalty shootout victory over Atleti in Saudi Arabia, Zinedine Zidane’s men have won 7 straight matches in all competitions. The latest was a convincing 4-0 victory at Zaragoza in the Copa del Rey. More significantly they’ve reeled off three straight league wins to leapfrog Barcelona and climb to the top of the table. Victory here would send them six points clear, at least for 24 hours or so.
Beating Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu isn’t something they’ve found easy in recent years though. Diego Simeone’s Atleti have set a club record for unbeaten league games on this ground having not lost here in La Liga since way back in the 2012/13 season.
However never in that period have they travelled across town in worse shape. Atleti have just endured a nightmare week which saw them fail score in two league games and take just one point from matches against Eibar and Leganes. They were also dumped out of the Copa del Rey by third tier opponents so Simeone will be desperate for some kind of reaction here.
With the exception of Eden Hazard who is still injured, Los Blancos should be able to name their strongest eleven here although there is some debate as to exactly what that is with Isco seemingly back in favour again. Atleti meanwhile are at least hoping to have a few players back with Koke and Kieran Trippier recovering from injuries. They still look short on inspiration up top though with only five teams having scored fewer goals in La Liga this term than Atleti.
Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: 1-0 Real Madrid
These games are invariably tight affairs at the best of times. The two meetings this season have both ended 0-0 and this game also features the teams with La Liga’s best two defensive records. Atleti may have a fantastic record on this ground but Real Madrid have started to find a way to grind out wins and they look capable of edging this and taking another big step towards winning the Spanish title again.
