Levante vs Espanyol predictions, H2H and match preview for this Sunday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as two bottom half sides meet in Valencia.
Levante vs Espanyol Preview
This will be Espanyol’s third game since the appointment of Pablo Machin and as has been the trend for them this season, they’ve so far won in the Europa League but lost in La Liga under his management. Levante will be hoping to pile more misery on the Barcelona club here as they look to move into the top half of the table.
It has been a mixed start to the campaign for Levante who have picked up three wins but have perhaps ridden their luck at times with a couple of victories in games they probably didn’t fully merit three points from. They put up a decent fight away to Sevilla last weekend but ultimately succumbed to a late Luuk de Jong goal in a game they seldom threatened in. They should see much more of the ball here and the onus will be on them to try and grab another victory.
Espanyol have already switched to Pablo Machin’s usual wing-back approach. It wasn’t enough to prevent them from losing their fifth home game of the season against Villarreal last weekend. However their fine European form continued with a 1-0 win in Bulgaria on Thursday night despite wholesale changes. They could dearly do with a few league wins to lift the gloom with a relegation battle currently looking probable despite their Europa League progress.
They’ve a decent record against Levante over the past two seasons and they are one of the sides that they will have an eye on trying to catch but there is already a tension to some of their league showings and it remains questionable whether they really have the personnel to thrive playing Machin’s style of football.
Levante vs Espanyol Predictions
Score Prediction: 1-1 Draw
This is a tough one to call. Levante will be the favourites but all of Espanyol’s league points this season have come away from home. They have a large pool of players to bring back in who didn’t feature on Thursday night so tiredness shouldn’t really be a factor and they look capable of leaving with a point.
