Real Valladolid vs Atletico Madrid Preview
After the non-event that was the Madrid derby last weekend, Atleti put in one of their most impressive performances of the season so far in midweek, winning 2-0 in Russia away to Lokomotiv Moscow in the Champions League. They’ll be favourites to win here too against a Valladolid side that has made a decent start to the season overall.
They are though a team that seems curiously more content when they play away. Their 2-0 win at Espanyol last time out took them onto 9 points for the season, 7 of which have been claimed away. They may feel as though they could have taken better advantage of home games against new boys Granada and Osasuna though with both fixtures ending in 1-1 draws.
It’ll be interesting to see how Atleti line up for this game. They started with Alvaro Morata, Diego Costa and Joao Felix in their eleven in Russia and the experiment appeared to work quite well. Diego Simeone may employ Felix in a wide role but the Portuguese youngster is likely to be given license to roam around and potentially occupy more of a number ten position. With in-form Thomas Partey as well as Koke and Saul, Atleti have three excellent central midfield options which suggests we may see something akin to a 4-3-1-2 formation at times here.
Atleti have only won 1 of their last 4 league fixtures so it is important they do get the job done here otherwise there will again be a real sense that they’ve failed to capitalise on the sluggish start of Barcelona who are likely to find some form once Leo Messi gets up and running.
Real Valladolid vs Atletico Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-0 Atletico Madrid
Atleti have won their last two away games by 2-0 margins against Mallorca and Lokomotiv and that should give them confidence heading into this. Valladolid are still missing key man Ruben Alcaraz to injury and he is a big miss in midfield and overall Atleti should have enough to claim the points here against a team they’ve reeled off 8 straight victories against.
