Barcelona vs Sevilla Preview
This should be a cracking way to round off the weekend in La Liga with a fixture that almost always produces lots of goals. With Barcelona struggling with a few injuries at the back, the chances of an open game look even more increased but the Catalans will take confidence from a strong Second Half showing in the Champions League as they attempt to gun down Sevilla.
Two goals for Luis Suarez, one an absolute rocket, helped turn defeat into victory against Inter. With Leo Messi fit again and building up his match sharpness, Barcelona look as strong as they have done all season going forward although there is clearly work still to be done in terms of this new front three gelling together. Despite two damaging early defeats, Barcelona remain just 2 points off the top of La Liga heading into this round of fixtures with their home form as strong as ever.
Sevilla’s achilles’ heel in recent years has been these away games against the top sides. The same teams who they’ve invariably competed well against and often beaten at home, usually dispatch them with minimal struggle on their own patch. Camp Nou has been a particularly unhappy hunting ground with Sevilla letting in 10 goals in their 2 visits last season and Julen Lopetegui will be hungry for his team to show they are no longer such a soft touch.
That won’t be easy but they will fancy they can take advantage of something of a defensive crisis for Barcelona. The Catalans are without left-backs Jordi Alba and Junior Firpo which should see Nelson Semedo drafted in. In addition, they are short on options at centre-back with both Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti unavailable which ought to lead to a rare start for Jean-Clair Todibo.
Barcelona vs Sevilla Predictions
Score Prediction: 4-2 Barcelona
This game looks certain to produce goals. Barcelona haven’t kept a clean sheet in 4 competitive home games so far this term but they’ve still managed to win the lot. With so many defensive absentees, there ought to be a goal or two in this for Sevilla but with Suarez and Messi showing signs that they are finding fitness and form, Barcelona are still the most likely winners with Sevilla also having some selection doubts in central defence with Daniel Carriço a major doubt.
