Sevilla vs Real Madrid predictions, H2H and match preview for this Sunday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as Los Blancos face a trip to a ground that holds many bad recent memories.
Sevilla vs Real Madrid Preview
This is one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the season so far with so many angles to Sevilla’s clash with Real Madrid to dig into. It sees Los Blancos head to a ground where they’ve really struggled in recent years, suffering defeats in each of their last 4 league visits. The most recent of those came under the stewardship of Julen Lopetegui who will be in the opposing dugout this Sunday as he aims to build on a strong start to his time as Sevilla boss.
Sevilla head into the weekend as the league leaders although they will most likely have been replaced at the top by the time this game kicks off. That’s thanks to an excellent return of 10 points from their opening 4 games. They could have done without a long trip to Azerbaijan on the Thursday before this game but Lopetegui did opt to heavily rotate his side and they still came away with a 3-0 victory with new signings Javier Hernandez and Oliver Torres amongst the scorers.
Real Madrid meanwhile were on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline in Paris on Wednesday night as what was effectively PSG’s back-up forward-line proved far too hot to handle. Including the 2nd Half of their home clash with Levante last weekend, Real have conceded five goals since they last scored and this is not really the fixture that Zinedine Zidane would have chosen to have at this point in time.
Los Blancos are still short on midfield options with Luka Modric and Fede Valverde injured while Isco remains a doubt. That will force them to go with Casemiro, Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez in the middle of the park for the third game in succession. Sevilla meanwhile should be at full strength besides the absence of Nolito. They are set to start with Sergio Reguilon at left-back against his parent club and it’s safe to say the 22 year old may feel as though he has something of a point to prove to Zinedine Zidane here.
Sevilla vs Real Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Sevilla
Real Madrid have had a much harder time here than they’ve had at the Wanda Metropolitano or the Mestalla in recent years. They were out of the game by Half-Time this time twelve months ago and a combination of the hostile atmosphere and the quality of Sevilla’s play always makes it tough.
Right now there isn’t much to like about the way Real Madrid are playing. Eden Hazard is fighting back to fitness and is yet to make a major impact and you sense they may come out second best in midfield in this game with Ever Banega and Joan Jordan offering real quality for the Sevilla whose fine record in this fixture could be set to continue.
