Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo predictions, H2H and match preview for this Saturday’s game in La Liga. Read on for analysis and predicted line-ups as Atleti target a return to winning ways after a challenging week.
Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Preview
Atletico Madrid are back at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday, just three days on from their Champions League comeback against Juventus. They face a Celta Vigo side who have high hopes of a much improved season this time around. However the visitors are hampered by a couple of suspensions here after they were reduced to nine men last weekend.
They have at least had a week to prepare for this one unlike Atleti who had to dig deep to snatch a point from their clash with Juventus. That came on the back of defeat at Real Sociedad in La Liga, one which just quashed some of the excitement that was building around their prospects this season. That was perhaps a timely reminder that this is still a much changed team from last season and that Atleti remain a work in progress as they develop something of a new style which is more focused on attacking down the flanks with Kieran Trippier and Renan Lodi bombing on from full-back.
Celta Vigo also have a new look to them. However Fran Escriba will be a bit frustrated that he hasn’t been able to get his strongest eleven out yet for one reason or another. Rafinha is yet to make his second debut for the club due to injury while Fran Beltran and Jorge Saenz are suspended here. Both players were sent off in the First Half against Granada last weekend so it probably would be unfair to read too much into their 2-0 defeat against the newly promoted side.
They will need to keep their discipline if they are to stand a chance here. Atleti will be eager to get back to winning ways but there could just be a hint of fatigue and Celta will fancy they can ask a few questions with Diego Simeone’s side having let in 2 goals in each of their last 3 games.
Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Atletico Madrid
Atleti do look a bit more vulnerable defensively this season, not just because of the defenders that departed the club but because they do seem to be keen to embrace a slightly more attacking style. Celta have players who can hurt them but overall it’s hard to look past Atleti at the Wanda and Diego Simeone’s side should get back on track with 3 points here against a Celta side which is below full strength due to injuries and suspensions.
