Atletico Madrid’s title hopes effectively ended late on at Camp Nou last weekend. It now seems that Diego Costa did insult the referee and was rightly sent off, although the subsequent 8 match ban seems a little harsh. He’s not the only striker suspended for this match though with Iago Aspas missing for Celta Vigo after he somewhat suspiciously received a booking last weekend for removing his shirt in celebration of his second goal.
Aspas has turned Celta’s fortunes around with an incredible run of 5 goals in 3 games since returning from injury to help bring home 7 points for the struggling Galicians. This does seem like a rather convenient game to serve a one-match ban in and it’ll give Aspas a bit of time to rest up before the run-in. Without Aspas, Celta have taken just 4 points from 11 games this term and the stats suggest he is the most important player in La Liga to his team.
Antoine Griezmann also features in that contest but he hasn’t had his best season by his high standards with 13 league goals a slightly disappointing return for a player considered to be among the best of the rest, outside of the Messi-Ronaldo debate. He will start here but Atleti are missing a host of regulars with Thomas Partey and Jose Gimenez also suspended. Injury problems in defence could see Nehuen Perez make a rare start at centre-back alongside Diego Godin.
That might give Celta Vigo a bit more of a sniff but there is no getting away from the fact that they are a different team when Aspas is sidelined.

Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: 3-1 Atleti
Betting Tip: Atletico Madrid -1 Asian Handicap @ 1.63 with Spin Palace Sports (18+)
Both sides are likely to line up 4-4-2 but Atletico boast much more all-round quality and have suffered just 2 defeats in 36 home league games. It’s very hard to see any other outcome here besides a home win with Celta missing their talisman and still defending poorly.

One to Watch – Antoine Griezmann
Seeing a lot of agenda-driven posts against Griezmann just because his 10man team lost in the final minutes in a game where he led the line admirably
There have been a few moments in the season where we wanted a bit more from you but not tonight. You gave it all.

Griezmann could hold the key to settling this game. He has 9 more goals and 5 more assists than the next best Atleti player in either category this term in La Liga.
