This Monday’s game sees two sides meet who have been on the slide somewhat over the past month or two. Eibar haven’t won since that famous victory over Real Madrid when they cruised to a 3-0 win against Santi Solari’s men. Espanyol meanwhile have lost 7 of their last 8 games in La Liga, undoing a lot of their good work early in the season. They have made a slightly brighter start to 2019 though with a Copa del Rey win over Villarreal last week.

Eibar have had no such distractions after their early exit but they will be starting to get a bit anxious about the possibility of a relegation battle were they to drop points again here. They haven’t been performing terribly over the course of this 7 game winless streak. Even last weekend at Camp Nou, they were a bit unfortunate to find themselves on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline in a game they played a significant part in. They will be hopeful that a return to Ipurua will see them back to winning ways.

As for the visitors, Espanyol have also slipped into the bottom half now. It’s getting towards the point where if they keep on losing matches, an improbable relegation battle is plausible despite a wonderful start to the season that saw them in the top four for many weeks. Even during that spell, they were far less convincing on the road though and they are the clear underdogs here.

Eibar have a slight advantage in that they’ve had the week off to prepare for this while Espanyol also have a Copa del Rey Quarter-Final 1st Leg coming up on Thursday to consider. That may have some impact on their team selection, particularly in the cases of centre-backs Mario Hermoso and Oscar Duarte, who are both carrying knocks.
