DATE/TIME –  Saturday 1st December 2018, 13:00 (Spanish Time)

STADIUM – Balaidos

COMPETITION – La Liga

#CeltaHuesca

This will be the first home game for new Celta Vigo boss Miguel Cardoso. He will be even more determined to win it having seen his team slip to defeat at Sociedad in his opening game last weekend. On paper this should offer the Galicians the perfect chance to get back on track but Huesca shouldn’t be underestimated despite a miserable run of form that has seen them fail to win since the opening day at Eibar.

They were hammered 4-0 at San Mames in the Copa del Rey in midweek but in truth that competition is simply not a priority with La Liga survival their only real target this term. They were unfortunate not to win last weekend with Levante departing the Aragonese town with a 2-2 draw despite having been second best for much of the game. The performance at least suggests Huesca can make a fight of their battle for survival. However their recent appointment Francisco is yet to win and every game that slips by makes their chances of beating the drop get all the slimmer.

In some respect these two clubs have plenty in common. Both made adventurous appointments in the summer with Antonio Mohamed joining Celta despite no previous experience in Europe while Leo Franco was a total novice in terms of being a head coach. 13 games in and both sides have already dispensed with those men, somewhat prematurely it could certainly be argued.

Celta were performing better than the likes of Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao and Valencia under Mohamed and having lost plenty of key players over the summer, it’s tempting to say that the top of the bottom half is about as good as it could get for them this term. Cardoso may well look to instil a slightly more cautious style of play but overall you’d have to say he has a big job on his hands.

Celta Vigo vs Huesca Predictions

Score Prediction: 2-1 Celta Vigo

With two coaches finding their feet in new jobs, this is quite a tough game to read. Huesca weren’t bad at all last weekend but they just don’t seem to have that knack for grinding out results and overall Celta have much more quality in the final third. The finishing prowess of the likes of Iago Aspas and Maxi Gomez could settle this one and the Galicians ought to deliver three points for Cardoso in his first outing at Balaidos.

Celta Vigo vs Huesca H2H

  • Last 6 meetings: 2 Celta Wins, 2 Huesca Wins, 2 Draws
  • These sides haven’t met since March 2012 and a 1-1 draw in the Segunda Division in Aragon.
  • The last meeting at Balaidos saw Celta win 4-0 earlier that season.
  • Huesca had won on all of their three previous visits to Vigo though.

One to Watch – Brais Mendez

One man enjoying a real breakthrough season is Brais Mendez. The 21 year old attacking midfielder was a bit of a surprise call-up to the Spain squad but netted a goal on his debut and will be keen to catch Luis Enrique’s eye again over the coming months with intense competition for a place the Spanish squad.
