Monday night games in La Liga are rarely that appealing but this could be the exception. It features two sides that have a fair amount of attacking quality but defensive weaknesses. Celta Vigo’s last two matches have produced six goals each and despite being down in 14th, they are La Liga’s 3rd highest scorers heading into this match-day. Sociedad meanwhile are a couple of points better off but all their wins this term have come away.
This game sees La Liga’s newest coach take charge of Celta Vigo for the first time. Antonio Mohamed’s brief but colourful stint at Balaidos was brought to an end after his side lost 4-2 against Real Madrid last time out. His replacement is Miguel Cardoso with the 46 year old Portuguese boss fresh from an unsuccessful stint with Nantes in Ligue 1. He inherits a side with plenty of firepower in the shape of Maxi Gomez and Iago Aspas but one that has lacked consistency in other areas of the pitch.
A trip to the Anoeta is perhaps not a bad first game for him to have. La Real’s failure to win at their newly renovated home must be starting to prey on a few minds in the Sociedad dressing room and it’s a monkey they could desperately do with getting off their backs. They have impressed away, scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes to claim victory at Levante last time out but they really need to find the right formula at home.
The absence of Asier Illarramendi to suspension could be significant here as he is the man who adds control in midfield and largely provides the base from which Sociedad build their attacks. Celta have their own absentees and it’ll be interesting to see what formation they use under their new boss, who may prove to be somewhat more cautious than his predecessor.
Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: 2-1 Celta Vigo
Sociedad’s home struggles and the absence of Illarramendi suggest this could be a positive start for the new Celta boss. The visitors are also without the likes of Hugo Mallo and Gustavo Cabral to suspension which could make them a bit vulnerable at the back but if they can get good service to Iago Aspas and Maxi Gomez, they still have the tools to win this one.

With Celta missing two defenders to suspension, Sociedad frontman Willian Jose will be looking to take advantage. If he can bully a reshuffled visiting backline, he could have a major impact here.
