It’s fair to say that this Sunday’s game between Huesca and Getafe in La Liga is unlikely to be one for the neutrals. Huesca are bottom of the division and in truth they look pretty poor and unlikely to stand much chance of beating the drop back to the Segunda Division. Getafe have much more about them but aren’t particularly pleasing on the eye and they are the team to have commirted the most fouls in La Liga this season, by quite some distance.
This could turn into a real scrap. Huesca have taken just 1 point from their last 8 matches and this already has a ‘make or break’ kind of feel to it. Defeat would be their 4th at home already this season against sides that are expected to finish from mid-table down. Newly promoted teams, or anybody for that matter, simply can’t afford to be consistently losing those kind of fixtures. Any hope of an instant turnaround under new boss Francisco would also lose any steam here were they to lose with Huesca yet to pick up a point in two matches under him.
As for Getafe, they come into this one in good form. They’ve won 3 on the bounce in all competitions following a midweek win at Cordoba in the Copa del Rey. A return of 15 points from 10 games represents a solid start but it’s probably too early to definitively say they are genuine European contenders although with the likes of Valencia, Athletic and Villarreal struggling, they stand a decent chance of getting in the mix.
It’ll be interesting to see how they approach this. Generally Getafe are a cautious side with their matches this season averaging just 1.8 goals per game. However against weaker opponents, even away from home, the onus will be on them to try and dictate the play a bit so Bordalas will have to think hard about his tactical approach here.

Huesca’s appointment of Francisco seems largely geared around making them more solid defensively. There have been tentative improvements in that regard and they’ve not been quite as bad overall as their recent results suggest. They’ve not been finishing chances though and there’s unlikely to be many in this game. A scrappy affair is likely and two fairly cautious coaches may end up cancelling each other out.

Huesca need their star striker Cucho to start delivering on a more consistent basis. He has already underlined his potential with a brace on his Colombia debut this season but has just 1 goal in La Liga to date.
