Leganes vs Atletico Madrid predictions, H2H and match preview for this Saturday’s derby in La Liga. Read our analysis and predicted line-ups as Atleti target their first ever top flight win at Butarque.
DATE/TIME – Saturday 3rd November 2018, 13:00 (Spanish Time)
STADIUM – Butarque
COMPETITION – La Liga
This is the first game of this Saturday’s treble-header in Madrid, which sees all of the ‘big three’ play in the Spanish capital on the same day, a very rare occurrence. Leganes have already beaten Barcelona at home this season so Atleti better beware but it is still the visitors who come into the game as strong favourites.
Leganes have struggled aside from the win over the Catalan giants. They sit 18th in the Primera Division currently with their only other victory coming against Rayo, one of the two sides below them. 7 of their 8 points have come at home though and turning Butarque into something of a fortress is going to be key in their battle to stay up as they simply don’t look like a side that is going to get many points away.
Anything would be a bonus for Leganes from this game but they have held Atleti to draws in the previous two top flight meetings at Butarque. Diego Simeone’s men have responded pretty well to an uncharacteristic 4-0 mauling in the Champions League at Dortmund. Since then they’ve beaten Sociedad 2-0 in the league and won 1-0 at Sant Andreu in the Copa del Rey with Gelson Martins scoring his first goal for the club on his first start in a much-changed line-up.
A lack of goals for Atleti’s first-choice forwards is one major concern for Los Rojiblancos right now though. Diego Costa hasn’t scored in La Liga since way back in February, a miserable record for a player of his quality. Antoine Griezmann hasn’t been much better, in the league at least, with just two goals since the end of April in the Spanish top flight. Both will need to start delivering soon if Atleti are going to keep on Barcelona’s tails as the title race starts to take shape.
Leganes vs Atletico Madrid Predictions
Score Prediction: 1-0 Atletico Madrid
The two previous top flight meetings between these two at Butarque have both finished 0-0 which gives you an idea of what kind of game this might be. Asier Garitano has left Leganes since then though and you sense they’ve just lost a bit of that defensive stubbornness (1 clean sheet in 11 games this season) which has essentially kept them up in the last two years. Atleti should nick it but it won’t be pretty.
Leganes vs Atletico Madrid H2H
- Last 6 meetings: 3 Atletico Wins, 2 Draws, 1 Leganes Wins
- Leganes are yet to score in 4 top flight derbies against Atleti.
- However the two previous meetings Butarque have both ended 0-0.
- Atleti were 4-0 winners in the most recent clash, at the Wanda in February.

Atleti’s forwards may not be scoring but full-back Filipe Luis is! The Brazilian has 2 in 2 in La Liga. He’s never previously scored more than 3 goals in a league season in his long career.
