This game features two teams who are most likely going to find it tough to live up to the exceptionally high standards they set last year. Both Eibar and Girona made the top half of La Liga for the first time in their histories, Girona of course in their first ever top flight season. Repeating the trick will be a challenge but the Catalans have made a reasonable start.
They currently sit in mid-table with just one defeat in their last five matches. That includes an impressive draw at Camp Nou but they have already suffered a couple of home defeats with Real Madrid and Betis both winning at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi. Overall it will perhaps go down as a mixed start for Eusebio at the Catalan club but they have looked much more like their old selves over the past month with talisman Cristhian Stuani fit and firing.
The assumption meanwhile is that this will be José Luis Mendilibar’s final season at Eibar. He will be hoping he hasn’t stayed on one too many having done brilliantly to not only keep the Basque minnows up but also keep improving during his three years at the helm.
They certainly haven’t been quite at their best this season though. Eibar head into this match-day just one place above the drop-zone. They’ve lost back-to-back matches too, the most recent of which saw them lose 3-1 to Sevilla in a game overshadowed by the collapse of a railing at their stadium, which saw several visiting fans pick up injuries.

Score Prediction: 2-1 Girona
This game promises to be fairly even. Both sides have had joy with similar tactics over the past twelve months in that they get the ball wide and get plenty of crosses into the box. Eibar were hit harder by a few summer departures though and they’ve not really found any form yet. With home advantage, Girona might just have the edge.

With his goal this weekend, Christian Stuani became the fourth highest Uruguayan goalscorer in La Liga history with 68 goals, overtaking José Luis Zalazar.

Cristhian Stuani is fast developing into one of the real stars of this league having been something of a journeyman striker until last season. He has been playing in beast-mode this term with 6 goals already in La Liga, one more than Leo Messi has managed.
