Cadiz vs Real Valladolid Preview

Friday’s action in Spain features a huge relegation six pointer at the Nuevo Mirandilla. Cadiz and Real Valladolid are both on 35 points, just above the relegation zone and the result here will go a long way to determining the ultimate fates of these two sides.

With home advantage, Cadiz will be the slight favourites and Sergio will be hoping to claim a key win over his old club. It was a victory at the Jose Zorrilla in the reverse fixture on matchday 6 that gave Cadiz their first points of the season and most likely kept Sergio in a job. That was a huge turning point in their campaign and was the start of a run that saw the Andalusian side lose just 1 of 8 in LaLiga.

Recent results haven’t been so impressive though. They’ve struggled with some injury problems and have lost 4 of their last 6 matches, including a 1-0 defeat at Mallorca last time out. They did win their last home game though, a key 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Valencia and their ability to perform in a pressure six-pointer like that should give them confidence heading into an even bigger game here.

Cadiz do have some favourable fixtures left, so this isn’t quite the last chance saloon for them and the same applies to Real Valladolid who also have Almeria and Getafe yet to play. However the visitors have to stop the rot and end a 4 game losing streak which has undone much of the early positive work done following the appointment of Paulo Pezzolano.

They need to regroup and go again here after losing their cool a bit last weekend against Sevilla. The Real Valladolid players were left fuming after what appeared to be an opening goal in the dying seconds of the 1st Half was ruled out by the referee blowing the Half-Time whistle. They went on to lose the game 3-0, despite having 28 attempts on goal and they need to be both more clinical and better defensively in the final weeks if they are going to stand a chance of surviving.

Score Prediction: Cadiz 1-1 Real Valladolid

This is a really tough one to call. Real Valladolid have played some good football under their new coach but have problems in both penalty areas, particularly in defence where they’ve continued to leak goals and give up too many chances. It’s a good opportunity for Cadiz to capitalise on that but they aren’t the most clinical side in the league either and may struggle to make the visitors pay.
