Real Valladolid vs Elche Preview
Elche travel to the Jose Zorrilla this weekend with LaLiga’s only winless side desperately in need of a positive result. It won’t be easy though with Pacheta’s men in decent form currently.
It is 3 wins from 6 for the newly promoted team and they have a real opportunity to make that 4 from 7 here. We’ve seen many times before how one good run early on in the season can provide the foundations for survival even if things do tail off in the second half of the season and right now Real Valladolid will be hoping to ride that wave a little longer.
They weren’t great in their last match, a 2-0 defeat at Osasuna, but their home form is currently strong. Their last two outings in front of their own fans produced a 4-1 win over Celta and a 1-0 success against high-flying Real Sociedad. They have an in-form striker in the shape of Sergio Leon and they have tried to be a bit more positive than we saw from Real Valladolid during their previous top flight stint when current Cadiz boss Sergio was in charge.
As for Elche, things really are starting to look quite bleak. 12 games in and they still haven’t won and the coaching change with Francisco departing and Jorge Almiron arriving has not sparked any real turnaround in their fortunes. They are 6 points adrift already heading into this weekend and they desperately need to win at least one of their two games prior to the World Cup, with Girona visiting the Manuel Martinez Valero on Tuesday.
Their 1-0 defeat at home to Getafe on Monday represented a fresh low for this side. While they didn’t really deserve to lose the game, there are still problems at both ends of the pitch with Elche currently having both LaLiga’s worst defensive record and joint worst goalscoring record.
