Real Madrid vs Sevilla Preview
This Saturday’s action concludes at the Santiago Bernabeu where Real Madrid and Sevilla face off. It’s only earlier this year that these two teams looked to be fighting it out for a league title but it’s testament to how far Sevilla have fallen that they come into this game in the bottom half and as huge underdogs.
Real Madrid continue to march on and right now it feels like there is no stopping the defending Spanish and European champions. They built on their Clasico win last weekend with a 3-0 success away to Elche in midweek. It was slightly closer than the scoreline suggested and it wasn’t until the final 15 minutes that Los Blancos killed the game off, but it was another good night for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
We didn’t get quite as much rotation as might have been expected with the likes of Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos all starting the game. However with Champions League progress secured, Ancelotti may feel as though he can afford to rest players in Europe next week whilst prioritising this fixture.
As for Sevilla, they are still unbeaten under new coach Jorge Sampaoli. It would be wrong to suggest that they are suddenly playing brilliantly and they only managed to have 4 attempts on goal in their win at Mallorca last weekend, creating just 0.18 xG. It was slightly more exciting in midweek against Valencia in a game that finished 1-1 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
We may see some rotation here from Sevilla who have a must-win game against Copenhagen next week as they bid to keep their slim Champions League qualification hopes alive. There is also the reality that Sampaoli won’t know his strongest eleven yet and it feels like there are few obvious stars in a Sevilla squad that looks as weak as it has done for some time.

Score Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Sevilla
Real Madrid got a relatively rare clean sheet at Elche in midweek with Andriy Lunin doing well in goal. They could back that up with a repeat here against a Sevilla side that isn’t creating a great deal and their visitors will most likely suffer the first defeat of Sampaoli’s second spell at the helm.
