Almeria vs Girona Preview

Two newly promoted teams clash this Thursday in LaLiga as Girona make the long trip to Almeria. These sides are familiar foes having battled it out promotion in recent years from the Segunda Division, although both clubs were very active in the summer transfer window so the two teams are much changed from their latest duels.
Almeria picked up a vital victory in their last home match, winning 3-1 against Rayo Vallecano with three 1st Half goals. They’d lost four on the bounce without scoring prior to that with the pressure really starting to mount on Rubi. However a 3-1 defeat at Betis on Sunday means Almeria’s overall form is still poor and they certainly need at least a point from this game.
Going forwards they have certainly looked more threatening in their last two matches. They asked some questions of Betis on the break last time out while El Bilal Touré has netted in both games with the summer signing now clearly in pole position to lead the line. Defensively though, it has been a bit of a mess at times and there was some static defending which contributed to their defeat at the Benito Villamarin.
Girona also have problems when it comes to keeping goals out and these two sides do not have a clean sheet between them so far this term. The Catalans have been slightly more convincing overall but are only one point better off so defeat here would really plunge them into the thick of the relegation scrap.
Their last match was a frustrating one and they will feel as though it was two points lost rather than one gained as they were held at home by Cadiz despite creating much the better chances. Their only win in the last seven was by a 2-1 margin against Real Valladolid and despite some positive football, they have usually come up short against the stronger sides.

Score Prediction: Almeria 2-2 Girona
These are two flawed teams, at least at this level, with defensive frailties likely to continue to cause both Almeria and Girona problems as the season progresses. However both do have some lively attacking players which suggests this could be a good game with chances at both ends and we may get a score draw.
