Getafe vs Athletic Club Preview
Athletic Club head to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Tuesday as they bid to bounce back from a weekend defeat. Ernesto Valverde’s side dropped from 3rd to 6th as a result of that loss to Atleti but they can quickly put it behind them if they can get back to winning ways here.
Getafe are trying to breathe some life into their season after a slow start. A return of just 8 points from 9 games is a significant downturn from their form last season following the appointment of Quique Sanchez Flores. He has had injury problems to contend with though which have certainly played a role in their struggles so far.
They are finally getting towards the point where it may be possible to name their strongest eleven with Mauro Arambarri the only remaining injury doubt heading into this game. Defensively things have settled down a bit with only one goal conceded in their last two matches and it’s going to be really interesting to see how Luis Milla goes in midfield with the former Granada man potentially the player who could bring some much needed creativity to this side.
Athletic have not been struggling on that front. They rank 3rd in LaLiga for both goals and xG with things coming together nicely under Valverde. However they failed to convert any of their opportunities on Saturday night as they sank to their second defeat of the season, a 1-0 loss against Atletico Madrid.
That may just cool talk of a possible top four push for now but European qualification certainly has to be the goal for Athletic this season. Valverde has mostly stuck with a relatively settled eleven so far with only a few places seemingly up for grabs in this team. He might consider a bit of rotation here though with the likes of Dani Vivian and Dani Garcia potentially coming in. The full-back roles may also see changes if he’s after some fresh legs.

Getafe do feel like they are starting to at least fix their early season defensive woes and their midfield should be stronger now they have players returning from injuries. They ought to be competitive in this game and while Athletic have been impressive so far this term, they may have to be content with a point here.
