Celta Vigo vs Real Sociedad Preview
Sunday’s action in LaLiga starts at Balaidos where Real Sociedad are the visitors. Celta Vigo will be hoping that fatigue is starting to catch up with La Real who are in great form but still struggling with injuries in the midst of a busy period in the season.
Celta have no injuries or European distractions to contend with so Chacho Coudet is in a position where he can try to find a bit of continuity for his new-look team. They gave a good account of themselves at Camp Nou last weekend but failed to convert chances in a 1-0 defeat. That was a 3rd loss in 4 games, but they have had a number of tough fixtures with this match their 5th in a row against potential European challengers.
Pushing for that final European place is something that may be on Celta’s dream agenda but it does feel like they will perhaps be a bit short on that front. However Chacho Coudet will be relatively content with their current mid-table status with many pundits fearing a bit for them this season after a summer of change.
One of those changes was the departure of Brais Mendez who will make his first return to Balaidos with Real Sociedad here. The 25 year old has quickly established himself as a key player for La Real with 5 goals in 7 league starts, a vital contribution at a time when the Basque side are missing a host of attacking players to injuries.
Thursday’s 3-0 win over Sheriff made it 6 straight wins in all competitions for Real Sociedad. They weren’t really stretched by the Moldovan champions who were reduced to 10 men after just 33 minutes ensuring a comfortable evening for Imanol’s side who maintain their 100% record in Europe. The likes of Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi were fully rested in that game so they should be reasonably fresh here.
