Real Madrid vs Osasuna Preview
Osasuna travel to Madrid to take on Los Blancos in the penultimate fixture of matchday 7. Real Madrid are looking to return with another victory. Similarly, Osasuna are doing well this season and what better way to further boost your confidence than beating the LaLiga and European champions?
Real Madrid came out victorious in the Madrid derby last time out which saw them maintain their 100% winning record. Mario Hermoso’s 83rd-minute header wasn’t enough to overturn Rodrygo and Fede Valverde’s first-half goals.
Real Madrid haven’t been playing “beautiful football”, but they have been playing effective football to win games. After the victory against Leipzig, Carlo Ancelotti said, “It’s a stage of the season where I can’t ask the players to play fantastic football. I ask them to play intelligent football to win games in the most straightforward way.”
Luka Modric has been sidelined for a week through a back injury. Losing one of, if not the best midfielder in the world is a blow, but their midfield has plenty of depth and quality in reserve. Karim Benzema is also back to full fitness which is a massive boost for Los Merengues.
Since the start of the season, Osasuna have exceeded expectations. They’ve obtained 12 points from a possible 18 and currently occupy the fifth spot. Their two defeats came against Betis and Getafe on matchdays 3 and 6 respectively.
During the international break, Los Rojillos beat Real Valladolid 2-0 in a friendly. Their players should still be sharp and will be hoping this is a night to remember as they bid to go one better than the goalless draw they secured on this ground last season. Chimy Avila, their most dangerous attacking player, is suspended though which won’t help their chances of asking questions on the break.

Osasuna will be up for it and I wouldn’t be surprised if they scored first. But momentum is difficult to stop in football and Real are full of it. The return of their captain, Karim Benzema, will boost the atmosphere in the Bernabeu and that paired with Real Madrid’s quality will be too much for Los Rojillos to handle.
